It is so amazing to know how wonderful a human body is, how much movement it can do and ability to do almost anything. The not so good news is that with so many movements that the body can do, other people have been doing too much and pushing their strength to the limit. This usually results in damage, either in the a form of psychological dysfunction, stress, sickness or injury.

Our shoulders are one of the essential parts of the human body. This is where our arms are connected to our upper body, and without our shoulders may be we would not have arms as well. This would definitely limit us from doing a lot of things. Those who have experienced what is called as a rotator cuff injury, feel severe pain in their shoulders which usually extends to some part of the upper body and the entire arms.

Before we continue, let us first understand what a rotator cuff is all about, how it gets damaged or injured, and how can the injury be cured or prevented.The rotator cuff is also called the musculotendinous cuff and consists of four muscles;the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and the subscapularis.These muscles are found in the shoulders and function by helping the arms to move and rotate without dislocating bones or muscles. While a rotator cuff injury would mean an injury on one or more of these muscles found in the shoulders, the injury can either be a tear in the muscles or an inflammation.

There are many reasons why people suffer from rotator cuff injury. People who are into sports are the ones who commonly experience this kind of injury. Sudden stress on the arms causing either muscle tear, inflammation. This is usually caused because of strenuous physical actions done by basketball players, bowlers or tennis players.

Some cases of rotator cuff injury can be healed with the RICE method, more commonly known as rest, ice, compression and elevation. For more serious cases, most of the time an operation is necessary to heal the muscles and not worsen the case. Most of them also may require some a seies of therapy sessions and even a period or rehabilitation before the injured muscles will fully recover. Some may even require lifetime maintenance so as not to experience the injury again.

Overall, rotator cuff injury doesn’t happen frequently, as long as the person prepares his body properly by doing warm up exercises before any physical activities that could strain the muscles, especially the arms and upper body parts. As well, eating healthy foods would also be helpful in order to prevent joint pains and arthritis, which make the person even more prone to muscle injuries.

In order to not weaken your muscles, it is always suggested to have a proper and well balance diet and do proper exercises. Simple activities such as walking and jogging can help develop the strength of your muscles in order to prevent certain kinds of injuries, such as a rotator cuff injury. Before doing so, be sure to prepare your body well before doing strenuous activities. Stretching and yoga can also be helpful to relax your body before and after doing a variety of physical activities.
